Climate Action reporting portal

Groundbreaking Paris Climate Conference platform for UNFCCC

In late 2014, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) were preparing for the COP20 climate change conference in Lima. They wanted a way to showcase the thousands of commitments by companies, cities and subnational regions - the so called 'non-state actors' - to tackle climate change.

With the help of the client, who was embedded within our team, we designed, built and deployed the Global Climate Action portal. For the first time, this data was visualised and shaped. We were ready for a high volume expected launch traffic following a 10M+ thunderclap reach.

Through 2015 the portal was maintained and updated for the historic Paris conference in December. This release included several thousand more commitments, additional sections for investors and civil society organisations, and improved search and navigational elements. An Umbraco CMS was bolted on.

It was a resounding success: the site was so fundamental to non-state stakeholder reporting that it has been formally inked into the Paris Agreement.

Now in its fourth year, we have just relaunched the site with many added features including a matrix of themes and filters, and entity pages containing detailed data on related actions.
